  • History

Piazza 1909 is bringing back to life the original la Jolla beach house named "The Brodiaea" that was formely built in 1909.

It has been restored so it can remain a nostalgic setting for residents and visitors to enjoy. Thus, we can all imagine the beginings of this gentle, beautiful village by the sea. The word "Piazza" in italian refers to an open space in the center of public life.

It is the very core of the community, where everyone gather to observe and be observed.

  • Our concept

We are committed to Product, Environment and Hospitality.

We support the use of local fresh produce and each dish is prepared from scratch with love and passion.

We believe in sustainability, not as an abstract concept but as a conscious daily choice.

Nothing we are doing is new — on the contrary, we are returning to a simpler way of cooking based on our Italian traditions adding our spark of creativity.

We have stopped asking, “What is new?” and started asking, “What is best?”

  • Our chef

Stefano has transported the essence of his Milan birthplace to the beautiful setting of San Diego opening three successful restaurants, before Piazza 1909, in La Jolla.

As a native who knows the nice ties of Mediterranean dining, Chef Stefano prides himself in preparing everything from scratch.

His Northern Italian cuisine blends traditional Italian dishes with unique creations, implementing the concept of “slow food”, a new trend in Europe.

He prepares many inviting specialties, such as the “Asparagus Ravioli in a saffron and speck sauce”, stuffed with butternut squash, Italian sausage, in a browned butter sauce with poppy seeds or “Tagliolini ai Frutti di Mare”, seafood handmade Spaghetti and our favorite: “Pesce al Sale”, catch of the day covered in rock salt and cooked in the oven, to capture all the natural fish moister.

There is lots of contagious positive energy in Stefano’s personality and we wish it will touch you, too!
